• Keep wicks trimmed or they will tend to smoke
  • Keep lit candles out of drafts. Drafts create large flames causing candles to burn unevenly, drip and smoke
  • Keep candles out of strong light. It will make their colours fade
  • If candle appears ready to drip, extinguish candle and allow to cool before re-lighting
  • To prevent candles from boring a hole down the middle, burn candles for at least one hour for each inch in diameter. For example burn a 3-inch candle at least 3 hours
  • Before a party, light and extinguish candles. They will light more quickly and easily later
  • Store candles in a cool place as cool wax burns longer
  • When burning votive candles it is a good idea to place a small amount of water (approx. 1/2 teaspoon) in the bottom of the votive holder, this helps to keep the glass from cracking in the event that it is forgotten and helps to make the cleaning of the holder easier
  • To ensure the most even burn, pillar candles should be burned long enough to create a pool of wax that comprises most of its diameter
  • Candles burned close to one another will affect each other's burning quality due to their combined heat. Bear this in mind when creating decorative arrangements
  • Store candles in zip lock bags to conserve their scent and keep

  • Take precautions to prevent melted wax from getting on clothes, furniture and kitchen counters. Cover your work surface with old newspapers and wear an apron, and have plenty of paper towel nearby
  • All wax spills are best removed after the wax has hardened. if wax is spilled on wool, refrigerate it, then brushed out when the wax is cold and brittle
  • Chill, then scrape off pieces of wax left on pots, pans and tools. Then submerge in boiling water and follow with regular dishwashing
  • To remove wax from carpet, set your iron on low heat and get an old towel. Place the towel on the spilled wax and press down with the iron. The towel will absorb the wax. Keep repeating this using different spots on the towel until all the wax substance is out of the carpet
